Arthopoda

I liked that in class we looked at a lot of the things that were in our dissection guide . I learned that there are three sections of the grasshopper; the head, thorax, and abdomen. I wonder why the grasshopper has a little wing like thing over the flying wing. Is it for protection perhaps?
